Crafts: Recycled Denim Book Bag
My daughter and I were going through some of her out grown clothes in preparation for new school clothes and we thought up a great idea for a craft. So one rainy weekend we sat down and made it. We have also made these from thrift store finds and yard sale bargains since.
Start with a old skirt, preferably with pockets.
Cut off bottom of the skirt to the size that you would like your bag.
Turn the skirt inside out and sew the bottom hem together, using a basic basting stitch go left to right, then right to left. Tie off.
Turn the skirt right side out and at the top by the second belt loops sew your desired length and width of ribbon to the front and back creating the handles. Then decorate it as you like. We used iron peace sign patches and one of her bandanas. What my daughter loves about this bag is that she can coordinate the bag to her outfits just by changing the bandanas.
It has handy built in pockets for cell phones and iPods!
It was a seriously fun craft to do and really easy too!
