California Wine Club Review
My husband and I have just recently become wine lovers. We have always liked wine but have now realized how well it can accent a meal or just the many varieties that there are. We recently were given the chance to try a 2 month membership to California Wine Club and my husband was psyched to be able to try 4 different kinds of wine.
A little about California Wine Club:
In 1990 Bruce and Pam Boring were frustrated at trying to find truly great wine. Selecting a decent bottle of wine from thousands of pretty labels with prices ranging from $5-$35 was difficult and they relied on friends recommendations. So California Wine Club was born – they started a wine of the month club that was just like “one friend recommending a great bottle of wine to another friend”.
From the website: “We are now celebrating 20 years of business and the wine adventures keep getting better! Pam and I knew that there were hundreds of small, family-owned wineries dedicated to producing exceptional wine … and it was this wine that we wanted to share with our monthly wine club members. Each month we travel California’s wine country searching out the wineries, meeting the families and tasting the wines that never make it to local stores or wine shops. ”
Best part about the wine of the month club? Club members and gift recipients will never receive any bulk, closeout or private label wines…ever. Each and every wine we select comes from a real working winery and is backed by a 100% guarantee.
They have 4 wine clubs to choose from: Premier (most popular), Signature Series (For collectors and connoisseurs), International Selection (From small “mom & pop” wineries around the world), Aged Cabernet Series (Napa’s most prestigious Cabernets aged 8 – 12 years).
We got to sample the Premier club. It’s $49.95/month, that includes shipping and handling. Each wine club shipment includes two bottles of award-winning wine and a 12-page, full color publication,Uncorked. Uncorked offers an up-close and personal look at the family behind the wines plus tasting notes, recipes, wine luminary interviews, games and so much more. I really liked being able to read about where the wine came from and the story behind their business.
We received the Robledo Family Winery: The Seven Brothers 2008 Lake County Sauvignon Blanc & the 2009 Napa Valley Tempranillo
Our favorite thing is to have wine and cheese as a way to unwind after the kids go to bed. My husband cracked open the Tempranillo and some of our hard cheese and we had a little snack!
We chilled the wine a little while we were putting the kids to bed. It tasted fantastic.
The wine was dry, crisp, fruity, spicy and potent. It was a perfect combo with the cheese. We haven’t tried the Sauvignon yet but I will update you when we do. If it tastes anywhere near as good as the Tempranillo, I am sure I will like it.
This is a really great program, the membership terms are flexible and it would make a really great gift for some one this holiday! Check back next month, I will be giving away a $50 Gift Certificate to use at www.cawineclub.com !
