It just occurred to me…I have a 13 year old. In 2 1/2 years he’s going to drive. In 5 years he’s going to take that license and the car he has and drive off to college?!?!? Gulp. So then I started thinking (in my full on mom denial kinda way) what about online college? Anything to keep my first born in my sights right? So I actually started looking around and it does seem to be a pretty good option. So much so that the thoughts of the 13 year old faded away and I was actually looking at the courses for myself! I had never even thought about it. I totally was not aware of just how far the online courses have come since I was in college 13 years ago.
After looking in to it quite a bit I have come to the conclusion that I will have to release my son into the world after all. He is such a hands on learner that I fear his laziness will get the better of him and he wouldn’t complete the tasks given to him. BUT. I really think it could be beneficial to my daughter, who like me, is a visual learner. She likes having tasks all laid out in front of her and since she does have difficulty in completing assignments in a timely manner, being able to work at her own pace would be wonderful for her. I actually looked into online education for her last year when she was struggling to keep up with a very demanding course schedule (for her) and seemingly unorganized teacher.
So it looks like I will have a son in college (maybe I can still talk him in to something local…) and possibly a daughter I can take classes with. How cool would that be? 😉
