Awaken (The Patronus)
Description:
Lucy Donovan was supposed to have a weekend of fun in the sun, celebrating her upcoming graduation from college. In a split second, everything changed. A drunk driver ended Lucy’s mortal life.
Lucy opens her eyes to a world she never imagined possible and a new destiny: as a Patronus, a guardian of spirits. Adjusting to her new role and abilities while negotiating this confusing realm will test her limits and push her further than she ever dreamed she would go. From wayward spirits who don’t want her help to soul stealing vampires, and even a stuck-up British royal, Lucy must brave them all to save one spirit she can’t bear to lose.
Further complicating her confusing life is an inexplicable yet growing connection she feels to a member of her team, Max, whose mysterious behavior leaves her both confused and intrigued.
Waking up dead was just the beginning of her problems. Lucy’s death is about to become the greatest adventure of her life.

My Review:
I am a Supernatural aficionado. It is my favorite genre of book to read. I like to escape when I read. I normally don’t like any realism in my books. I like heroism, I like dark fantasy, I like conflict. Although I do like Twilight books (fun read if you don’t take them TOO seriously) sappiness has no place in a Supernatural book. I was hooked as soon as I started reading this book. HOOKED. I LOVED the characters. They are well written, believable and you really invest in them by the end of the book.
Normally if I am not interested by the 20th page of a book I am done. The book sits and collects dust. Lately a lot of the books I have bought have been so wordy and overly descriptive. I have NO idea why authors think we need to know every color of all the items in a room or every details of what the person who “just walked in the room” is wearing. I don’t care. I like when a book moves so quickly that I have read 100 pages before I know it. Awaken was just that kind of book. When it ended I was shocked! I was so wrapped up in the story. The premise is so fantastic. Lucy doesn’t know she is dead. She wakes up to find out she is some kind of uber being that has to save souls from soul stealing vampires and other supernatural beings. Excellent! Better yet, she has this un-explainable, strong attraction to another Patronus Max who has to guide her to a gut wrenching task where horrible things can happen if she fails…. I can not wait to read the next book and see where Sarah is taking these characters. My favorite character is her roommate Cassie…she is a girl after my heart. Sarcastic, silly and loyal. My kinda gal. 🙂
Take it from me, if you are a Supernatural or suspense fan you will love this book.
