In late 2013 I asked to participate in the Zone Perfect – Blog Forward 2014 Challenge. Basically myself and other bloggers are going to be sharing with you our resolutions for 2014 and how we are going to stick with them plus strive to stay healthy. The thing is I am not real big on resolutions, more on goals. I even went as far as to call them “promises to myself”.

My top 4 promises to myself this year:
*Drink more water and less soda. Yes I am cutting down on my beloved Pepsi. I recently had kidney stones that have set my health back quite a bit and I am not looking to repeat the experience. Drinking more water will help me keep that goal.*Eat less junk food snacks and more energy improving snacks, like my favorite Sweet & Salty Cashew Pretzel Zone Perfect bar. It definitely keeps me fuller for longer.
*Move more. I have fibromyalgia and this harsh winter has done a number on me. I have gained weight and lost stamina. I am trying to actively move more, even if it’s just 5 minutes of yoga.
*Get your sleep back on track so you will lose weight, be in less pain and just overall, happier.
So how am I doing? Pretty good so far for the most part. I have cut down on soda to the point where it’s just a treat. I have been really good at sticking to just water and my daughter and I have been looking for “detox water” recipes for the summer. My favorite we have found so far is just super simple. Water, lemon and mint leaves from my garden. The junk food I have been doing REALLY well with. I have cut down on bread, dairy and pretty much any bagged snacks. I stick to whole grain flatbreads or gluten free rice bread if I do eat it at all and have amped up on good foods like avocados, red grapes, broccoli and green smoothies not to mention making sure if I am on the go I grab bars like my old stand by Sweet & Salty Cashew Pretzel bar. So good. My daughter has been really digging the new greek yogurt ZonePerfect bars which I like. Way better than her usual go to snack, cookies.
I am still working on the moving more promise. It was frigidly cold here up to about 2 weeks ago so it has really hindered my ability to get out side. I planted a garden which will get me outside and moving plus I am planning a new work out system that is basically me just getting up and moving. Each week I increase my activity by 15 minutes. The sleep promise is a harder challenge…we have had loads of house and health issues so I am hoping that summer will bring better times and more relaxation.
