When Cricut came out many moons ago I was instantly in love but thought it was out of my price range and crafting ability. I basically just resigned myself to being jealous of my friends that had one but that I would never be able to get one – that it was just a passing fad. Then I noticed slowly that the price came down, there were thousands of graphics, fonts and embellishments that were being incorporated plus it seemed to be a “fad” that was sticking. I also noticed that there were loads of brands making knock offs of the Cricut – that is the first sign to me that something is pretty cool. When others want to emulate it. So I started looking around, pricing it out but I wasn’t really cool with investing in the machine until I could actually use it and prove my skill level would be able to handle it. I went to a conference in May and Cricut was there doing demonstrations. They allowed me to play with a precut sticker and make a cup. It was soooo much easier than I thought it would be.
I was in love instantly. Yes, there is a slight learning curve to figuring out how to get the vinyl cut and how to transfer it but it was not as hard as I thought. Even my arthritic hands can do it. I recieved a machine not long later and I have been obsessed with it. It is unbelievable how many cool things you can do with this machine. When you set it up it walks you through your first project. Step by step you make an adorable card.
As I was setting up my Cricut I came upon instructions on how to connect my Cricut with a Cricut iPad app. MY IPAD!!!! I literally have sat in my recliner and designed things. You can put the app on your phone too. I can’t believe I ever thought this would be hard. Recently I designed a new label for our mailbox with a super cool font. We are going to have the fanciest mailbox on the block. Cricut sells cool outdoor vinyl that is going to work perfect on it. (I got a tip from the Cricut rep too that the outdoor vinyl works the best on the insulated cups like I made above. It can handle the temps and washing.) My next project is to make these adorable turkeys for the kids at Thanksgiving. They always get antsy and this will be perfect to keep them busy while they are waiting for their food. I might even see if I have the time to customize them with each kids name. One of my favorite things about my Cricut and the Cricut Access is I can use the templates for inspiration and then add my own little touch to it. My machine has definitely renewed my love for crafting. In my next post I am going to show you how to take a Make It Now design and create your own project in less than 10 minutes. I am so excited to make teachers gifts this year because I can create a handmade gift that will be one gift that they probably won’t already have. 😉
