Blindspotz is a completely new way to think about home efficiency testing. You do it yourself. The results are simple and obvious.
We have a house that is over 70 years old and despite being updated over time, it’s still a drafty old house. Since we have moved in we have been slowly trying to make the house energy efficient but it’s hard to always pinpoint where the leaks are coming from.
We tried out the BlindSpotz DIY Cold Sensor for 48 hours in areas of the house that we were pretty sure were the culprits and were amazed by the results.
The first spot we put it in was behind the couch because the kids are always complaining it’s freezing over there. You can pretty much always find them wrapped in a few blankets once fall hits well into spring.
It was the perfect time to test it because we actually got hit with snow again that day!
BlindSpotz – Smart, Simple Diagnostic Sensors
Most DIY projects we have embarked on in this house ends up being a lot more than we bargained for. It was refreshing to have a project that was as simple as sticking a sticker to the wall and let it do its job.
Here’s how BlindSpotz works:
- Firmly rub the perimeter ring of the sensor until it is gray. The friction clears out any color activation and sets the sensor.
- Attach and fix the sticker to the area you think might be a trouble spot. It can be on a floor, wall, ceiling or on the sides of a window. Anywhere you think is causing problems. It should be around 34 degrees or below outside for optimal results. (DO NOT put on windows, metal or aluminum frames.)
- Leave up four 48 hours.
- Take a picture of any of the sensors that measure 50 or 55 degrees (or all four sections of the sensors).
- Email your pictures to BlindSpotz and the will give you recommendations of how to fix those areas!

Our Results:
When I sent mine in, pretty much all of our areas registered in all four sections, BlindSpotz quickly sent me my recommendations:
Brrrr…. it looks like you have some cold door and window troubles. We have set up an easy to watch BlindSpotz™Youtube Channel with tips on weatherizing both. You can visit our BlindSpotz™ Youtube Channel to grab more information (For Example, look under our “Fixing doors” section that demonstrates through caulking, sealing and guards which can help you with this issue.)
It looks like when we paint and get rid of the dingy off-white paint the previous owners painted the house (with white trim – NOT my style) we have a lot of repairs to do and caulking on the windows and/or doors.
I am so happy we did this and since we just had the house resided and insulated before the holidays, can’t even imagine how bad it was before!
I am looking forward to following their suggestions and gaining a little more money each month in the utilities bill. I will probably save more money on blankets too!!
