Season 7: Ep 8 Mid-Season Finale “Hearts Still Beating”
90 minutes. 90 minutes of me wondering whose going to get it. My money was on Spencer, I guess I should have put money on that one. So much to get to…
Say hello to your friendly neighbor… Negan?
Well doesn’t Negan just fit right in to this little piece of suburbia.
Spencer, Spencer, Spencer… Like really Spencer.
What did you think the outcome of this little rat-a-tat-tat was going to be? Like, did you think the group was just exaggerating how much of a lunatic Negan is. Did you think ‘Well my mom was the great Deana and she was awesome. So I must be too.’ I know you’ve been through a lot since the apocalypse Spencer, even more since Rick, but Carl has been through a lot too and he’s a heck of a lot younger and even at his worse he was much more stable than you’ve been. And that’s saying a lot, Carl has caused a lot of casualties.
Oh I know. You thought that Negan was the reasonable one and it was Lucille that was the real problem. So you thought hey, if I just get Negan alone for a second and tell him how much Rick sucks he’ll just be all ‘Okay, let’s just slap Rick on the wrist and send him along his merry way.’
Clearly you didn’t think this backstabbing plan through all the way. I don’t know if you just caught wind of which way your conversation with Negan was turning or if you just never really wanted Rick dead just gone but you sure tried to backtrack on your words real quick.
Clearly, Negan appreciates a good go getter like Rick.
Rosita… I mean, do I really need to say more?
Losing Abraham has clearly rocked her world. So she confesses her ‘sins’ to Father Gabriel at the beginning of the episode. And who would have really thought when we first meet Father Gabriel that he would become the kind of back bone he has been these last 2 seasons. Which smells trouble, you know what happens to moral compasses. Rosita says she’s willing to give up her life if it means taking out Negan… which she didn’t think all the way through.
In this corner we have Maggie…
Strong woman, fighting skills and survival knowledge. And in the other corner we have demoralizing, sniveling, out for himself Gregory.
Gregory, I guess it wasn’t clear when Sasha and Maggie saved Hilltop from the Savior’s forced walker take-over (which I’m not entirely sure you didn’t really have something to do with). But news flash you’re not going to be re-elected. There is probably an impeachment in your future, if you don’t meet an unfortunate end with a walker first which very well could be in the cards for you when the Hilltop joins forces with Rick’s posse to take down the Saviors.
Because if I had to guess they would use the Hilltop as a kind of vantage point and being the coward you are you would probably try to run and hide and then you would run into a walker, maybe a freshly turned Simon. Chomp Chomp. Or you’ll be some sort of ‘secret spy’, trying to get intel for the Saviors but someone is going to catch you and then you’ll be put in Hilltop jail where Jesus might reveal your brothers and try and save you only to realize there is no saving you then the massive fight will break out and a walker will find it’s way into Hilltop jail and… Chomp Chomp Chomp. Basically I think before the end of the season Gregory will die and it will be by a walker.
So back to Maggie… Gregory tries to put her in what he thinks is her place as she stands tall on the wall looking out for Hilltop.
“Maggie, I know people are saying things. Nice things about you and Sasha about the other night. They say you saved us. Don’t let it go to your head.” “Don’t let it bother you. It seems like it does.”
You go girl! Not only do you have like the best comeback but it’s followed by the guy who’s on guard with you telling Gregory to give you his food. The tides are changing Gregory, your leadership will probably be done by the time the first returning episode ends. Especially now that Rick and Company are there. I’m sure you’ll try to give some sort of ‘inspiring’ speech about why they shouldn’t let Rick and Maggie be in power but… you’re a d**che and no one cares what you have to say anymore. Now there are people at the Hilltop who know how to lead, how to keep people safe. The only reason you were in power was because there was no objections, no one wanted that burden especially with the Saviors.
Ahhhhhh…. Even when I’m trying not to write about Gregory it goes right back to him! I wanted to talk about how awesome Maggie is and how everything just slides right off her. This apocalypse can’t hold her down.
Just a little swim through the zombie lake.
This group doesn’t give second chances anymore.
