Loving my new X1 system!
So last month I announced that I was participating in the new blogger program for the X1 platform and #TeamTySoFast. (You can check out my first post here). Since then I have had the new equipment installed in my home and have been checking out the new features first hand.
It took me a bit playing with it to figure it out and I had the daunting task of rescheduling all my dvr programs which normally would take me forever. I quickly realized just how handy the x1 remote app on my phone was. You talk right into it and it recognizes what you say and takes you right to that show or channel. Normally talk to text things bug me…..I cringe every time my husband talks to his phone, but this little beauty is priceless. It took me 5 minutes to get all my shows set up, there were a lot of them. I watch more shows than I realize plus with 5 people in the house, two of them teenagers, we rack up quite a few shows. In the past it would have taken me an hour to reset everything.
I love how easy it is to find everything. There is no longer 6,000 steps to find what you are looking for and it moves REALLY fast. It’s not like my other box where I had to deal with the “Wait One Moment Please” message. It moves seamlessly from one option to the other.
With the revamped search feature, see what’s on live TV, XFINITY On Demand and your DVR, all in one place. Just search for a title, genre or actor, and instantly find what you’re looking for.
I really appreciate the Just For You screen. All your activity is right on the screen, you can hop right back to the show you were watching but had to pause because you had to make dinner!
Personalization is taken to a new level with the X1 platform – Discover new favorites with recommendations based on what you’re watching. Select any program and scroll down to “More Like This”. You will see a list of similar movies and shows you might enjoy or other programs with specific cast or crew members, simplifying the never-ending task of picking something to watch on a Wednesday night! If you look above, the platform is showing me shows that have been either previously watched On Demand or I taped on my DVR. If you click on the picture it will bring you to all the episodes available for that program. It’s so easy and FAST.
Another awesome feature of the new On Demand setup is just how easy it is to find your shows!! Did you forget to DVR your favorite show? No problem. It’s available On Demand the same day. All the shows are separated by night so it’s super easy to find what you want when you want it. The X1 platform takes your favorite actors, shows, teams and movies to customize great choices for your whole family to watch, from the kids’ endless cartoons to The Walking Dead on Sunday nights
You can even see what’s currently trending on Twitter looking through the guide. The “Trending Now” icon will show you what everyone’s talking about so you don’t miss out!
Parental controls are easily-accessible and easy to figure out on the X1 platform – You can set up a four-digit PIN that lets you lock programs by rating, channels or titles, and that prevents unwanted purchases of XFINITY On Demand or Pay-Per-View programs. You can even set up text and email alerts that notify you when an On Demand program is ordered. With two teens in my house I LOVE this feature. It’s also helpful with my 7 year old just in case she clicks on something she shouldn’t.
I only have two critiques so far, the guides font is a little small for people like me that don’t have huge tvs and the box needs to be reset every other day. They honestly are little things and the resetting? It’s to make sure you have the updated software for your box. So far it has held up to my family’s scrutiny. My two teenagers are pretty impressed. That says something right there!!
