I am about to surprise you with a little known fact about myself not known to a lot of people outside my “inner circle”. I have number dyslexia. If you are not familiar with number dyslexia let me enlighten you a bit:
Dyscalculia or math disability is a specific learning disability or difficulty involving innate difficulty in learning or comprehending mathematics. It is akin to dyslexia and can include confusion about math symbols. Dyscalculia can also occur as the result of some types of brain injury.
Dyscalculia occurs in people across the whole IQ range. Current estimates suggest it may affect about 5% of the population.
I went my whole adolescent life not knowing this. It wasn’t until I was taking a disabilities class in college that my teacher noticed I was answering the questions on a sample test “correct” when I should have been answering them incorrectly. If a number is not linear, I can’t read it or process it correctly. Even if it is, sometimes I can’t. During Christmas I was in Walmart and was convinced that the price of a coffee maker was $19.98 when it was in fact (apparently) $89.95. It creeps up when I least expect it. Sooo…imagine life was like in high school were the only way to protect your personal belongings was to place them in a locker with a ROUND lock. Round…not linear. Try sweaty palms, heart racing and lots of praying I could get my stuff out and race to class in time!
So when I was given the opportunity to try out this great new lock, I jumped on it. Get this….this lock works with LETTERS! Not numbers. It is surprisingly heavy and really sturdy. It locks in place and doesn’t jiggle like a lot of conventional locks. It’s really easy to set up your new password. I used a word I knew would make me giggle every time I used it. I got a black padlock.
Here are some facts about Wordlock:
- It has up to 100,00 word and letter combination with five dials that are easy to set and reset.
- It has a hardened steel shackle and 2 5/8 inch metal lock.
- Padlocks are great for school {I WISH I had one then},gym lockers, tool boxes, pool and yard gates, storage lockers
- Padlocks are available in red, black, silver and pink.
- There is also a Spanish version of the lock.
- Retail value is $8.99
- The lock is available in quite a few stores including: Sears,Kmart, Menards, Meijer and AAFES (Armed Forces Supply Stores). They are also available in select Ace Hardware, Lowes, CVS, Office Max, Do It Best and True Value Hardware.
- You can find them online at: Wordlock.com, Amazon.com, Kmart.com & Amazon.com

I have to tell you, they have found a lifelong buyer in me. It’s nice not to have to worry about losing a key to the lock and now I don’t have to worry about locking an item and never being able to remember the password or being able to open the lock again!
