One of the fun things about being a blogger is finding new blogs. I especially love finding new craft blogs emphasizing on crafters who use reusable items or create a pattern for a reusable product. Enter Extraordinary Moments in an Ordinary Life Kristi is an Air Force Chaplain’s wife who knows the meaning of being frugal with out sacrificing quality! The following is a great post on her thrifty, crafty project (which in my opinion came out beautifully). Visit her blog to read more of her crafty, frugal suggestions & cute mom stories. 😉
Thrifty Fun
Anyone who knows me knows that I love thrift stores. I love taking $10 and getting things that are often worth 10 times that or getting a couple of new toys for the kids using just the change in my pocket. Alamogordo seems to have more than the average number of thrift stores. I keep finding them in hidden corners of town. So for Susie’s nursery I did some serious digging and found several little things that made the nursery perfect. I wanted a vintage rose theme for Susie and I seemed to find roses everywhere. Add in a few fun DIY projects and some hand-me-downs and I couldn’t be happier with the results.
The letters for “Susie” were $2 each at a craft store. I added paint, roses printed on my computer and $2 worth of ribbon from the thrift store.
A perfect throw pillow – $2
These rose decals updated an old toy box and there was a bonus – it came with Disney princess wall decals for Lizzie.
This sweet little watering can was 30 cents.
The clock was $1.50. The rose cutout was $1 from the craft store. I added some more thrift store ribbon to hang it with.
I think that I paid $1 for this vase. I added some roses from the thrift store. More on those roses later. I already had the embroidered doilies.
This saucer was 25 cents. I paid more for the plate hanger at Walmart!
The dresses were worn by me a LONG time ago. The pegs were a splurge ($20). When I was at the craft store I was annoyed to realize that I could have done that myself.
The 2 teacups (and other saucers that I hung on the wall) were $5 per set. The bowl was already mine and it holds some roses given to me by Rich when we were dating. I dried them and saved them way back when. The little silver cups were given to me by Grandma several years ago. The embroidered napkins were part of my collection of vintage linens.
This pitcher is one of my favorites. My mom brought it out on her recent visit.
The tin sign was a gift for decorating Lizzie’s room. I already had the lamp and all of the other knick knacks.
The rose banner is made from $6 worth of thrift store flowers hot glued onto a fabric ribbon – another thrift store item ($1?).
I ordered the Moses basket new to use when Susie sleeps in our room for the first few weeks. We had borrowed a bassinet for previous kiddos.
I smile when I walk into this room. I hope I’m still smiling during 3 AM visits to the nursery but since I’ll be adding a cute little baby I think it will be even better.
