5 Products to help get your family through the winter
The frigid weather is upon us. The season of juggling bored kids, winter germs and digging yourself out of the snow before you freeze. Even if you don’t have kids, it’s pretty hard on us adults too. There are a few things that are essential to keeping yourself sane and safe in the winter time.
- Long underwear. If you live in the Midwest like I do you probably own a pair of long underwear. I own multiple sets! Gone are the days of ugly long underwear much to my delight. You can buy cute, comfortable sets of long underwear now for pretty reasonable prices. One of my favorite companies is Cuddl Duds. They have warm layering that’s cozy and comfy without serious bulk. That is a huge feature for me. With my fibro I need to be able to move and have soft fabric against my skin. They have super soft layers that fit a woman’s body, they are almost undetectable under jeans and a t-shirt. You can also wear them by themselves. They are THAT cute. Cuddl Duds also has v-neck tanks, crewneck shirts, long sleeve turtlenecks, zip-up hoodies, leggings with stretch or fleece. Not just for chicks either, you can grab a some for the entire family.

- Meal deliveries. I think, in my opinion, the worst thing about adulting is figuring out what to have for dinner. If you sign up for a meal delivery subscription, like Hello Fresh, it really helps. It takes the guesswork out of making dinner and you get awesome, delicious, probably way more healthy than you would’ve cooked on your own, meals. If you choose Hello Fresh you get to enjoy wholesome home-cooked meals with no planning, no shopping and no hassle required. There is seriously everything required for weeknight meals, carefully planned, locally sourced and delivered to your door at the most convenient time for you. It crazy awesome.

- Grocery delivery. Seriously. Who likes to go to the grocery store in the snow or rain? It’s inevitable though that as soon as the weather gets crummy you realize that you have run out of something imperative to life and are forced to go out in that crummy weather. Enter companies like Peapod (my favorite). It’s so easy. You set the time and they bring the groceries. Peapod, I think, fundamentally improves people’s lives by offering them a convenient, easy way to accomplish the task of grocery shopping online. They partner with the best grocery retailers in the business to bring their customers high quality, good value and outstanding service. Their team works hard at every turn to “amaze and delight” their customers! Service Only in the Greater Boston, NYC, Chicago and DC Areas. I have been lucky to live in MA and IL so I have been using Peapod since my older kids were very little. They were a LIFESAVER when I had a newborn.

- A extra phone. Why an extra phone? If you are a household like mine you always need an extra phone but it becomes important and a matter of safety in the winter time. If your phone runs out of charge or dies and you’re out in the middle of nowhere stranded you will thank me. With new drivers in my house I always insist that they bring the extra phone with them if it’s bad out. You can go the prepaid route or there is a fantastic company called FreedomPop that keeps everyone connected to the grid FOR FREE. FreedomPop provides disruptive mobile services including the world’s first 100% free mobile plan so that no one is left off the “connected grid.” Founded in 2012, FreedomPop is rewriting the rules. Since I am a rebel to the soul, I can respect that. In addition to free mobile service, the company offers a suite of devices, digital services, and innovative social sharing allowing users to share data across accounts. Services are currently available in the U.S. and U.K., with plans to take over the world in the upcoming year. This is life changing when you have new drivers in the winter!!! Now they have no excuse not to call.

- Bored bags. “I am bored” is not allowed in my house. Since we are frequently trapped inside in our house during the Chiberia weather, I like to have things up my sleeve like educational games, drawing and craft supplies, books and puzzles to entertain them. Since technology has advanced since the first Bored Bags I made for my two older kids, my 10 year old has a lot of these things on her iPad now. Make sure you have them charged up and ready to go when you want a little peace and quiet. I also have my daughter so the educational games on Snow Days. Yes I am THAT mom. No point wasting the opportunity as she sipping hot chocolate after playing outside! They can get a little learning in too!
