Great Night. Great Food. Great Cause.
I had never been to Taste of the Nation in Chicago before so I wasn’t quite sure to expect. What I should’ve expected was fantastic food, seriously fun people and getting together to support my favorite cause, No Kid Hungry. I was invited by LG to Taste of the Nation to visit their kitchen suite and sample Chef Jason Vincent’s awesome food.
LG is partnering with No Kid Hungry to bringing families together in the kitchen and making it easy to put healthy and delicious meals on the table, working to ensure that every child in the country has access to healthy food. In case you may not be aware, 16 million children (1 in 5) struggle with hunger. But they aren’t hungry because of a lack of food or programs – they are often hungry because of a lack of access to food. I am a mom. Those numbers break my heart. I can’t even fathom being in that position as a parent. You take for granted access to food, especially fresh food.
Background on Chef Jason Vincent
He has been in the industry for more than 25 years, studying at the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park; receiving accolades including Food & Wine “Best New Chef,” COCHON 555’s “King of Pork,” James Beard Foundation semifinalist nominee for “Best Chef: Great Lakes” and Michelin Guide’s “Bib Gourmand” award.
“As a chef, I’m so passionate about bringing friends and families together around the table to share a meal,” said Vincent. “I have been a long-time supporter of No Kid Hungry, and I’m inspired to bring this passion to life with LG’s Taste of the Nation guests by preparing a favorite dish of mine.”
I got to chat with Chef Vincent for a bit and he is a genuine, down to earth guy. He told me the decision to partner with LG and No Kid Hungry was a no brainer. He’s a dad and like me, it’s close to his heart. Chef Vincent understands the importance of offering fresh, well balanced food to growing kids. His recipe below was developed with a budget and lack of time in mind. You can make this entire meal for a family of 4, that’s full of fresh nutritious ingredients, for about $16.
It was a really great treat to try this delicious combination and meet Chef Vincent in the LG Kitchen Suite. Speaking of the suite………..
How gorgeous is that? My husband and I got the tour of the LG Black Stainless Steel Series. I had no clue how cool these appliances were! Not only are the they low maintenance, smudge- and fingerprint-resistant Black Stainless Steel technology, they are gorgeous!! Black is the New Stainless people! The appliances have new satin-smooth & bold finish, the LG Black Stainless Steel has the classic appeal of traditional stainless but with a contemporary character all its own. The new finish is versatile and timeless. You will be able to change your kitchen around the Black Stainless Steel Series without having to replace the appliances. One of the best features about the series is the maintenance app. You can contact customer care right from your app, it will diagnose your appliance and let you know if there are steps you can take to fix it yourself or if it needs a service. This kitchen suite changes all the rules and the way you cook.
This LG Styler closet steamer needs to find it’s way to my house. Just saying.
So I don’t know if you have noticed but newer ranges are BLUE inside instead of gray or black. The awesome LG rep at the event told us that it has been discovered that the color blue distributes heat better and more evenly. Not to mention it looks really cool.
I have teenagers and a 9 year old. I think when they home the fridge is always wide open to the point that I am refrigerating the kitchen at least 4-5 hours a day. I love that companies are now making efforts to designing appliances that become part of out life and not just regular, run of the mill basic appliances.
A feature that I was instantly attracted to was the “knock” feature of the refrigerator. It’s perfect and in the front of the fridge is a separate compartment to put items that need to be accessed all the time. Perfect for houses with teenagers. My husband videoed me playing with it because he was amused at how much I liked it. You can look on my Instagram too. We posted a few other features from the night.
It was such a fun night. LG truly is an awesome company and it is really cool that they support such a great cause.
