Every year my family has a Memorial Classic in honor of my cousin Jason Schweinberg. My cousin Jason had a CHD (Congenital Heart Defects). My brother had a Ventricular Inversion. Neither survived. Jason passed away after a heart transplant and my brother passed from complications from surgery. So as you can imagine creating awareness for CHDs is pretty close to my heart.
About Jason Schweinberg and the The Schweinberg Family’s Goals:
Jason Schweinberg was born with a congenital heart defect (chd) so rare that it left even the medical professionals searching for answers. He had many open-heart surgeries and countless other medical procedures. On August 9, 2001 Jason passed away during a heart transplant. He was only 17 years old and had courageously battled this disease. Sadly, thousands of families’ worldwide face the same struggles every day. Since Jason’s death the Schweinberg family is committed to helping families whose children are born with chd’s To honor their son’s memory, Steve and Cathy Schweinberg held the First Annual Jason Schweinberg Memorial Classic in September 2004. Proceeds from the golf classic go towards funding The CHD Quilt Project, purchasing AED’s for schools, and fulfilling a wish for a child with chd’s.
AEDs in Schools
While raising money for the CHD Awareness Quilt Project, the Schweinberg’s wanted a portion of the proceeds to go toward the purchase of Automatic Defibrillators for schools and other facilities. Funds raised through the Annual Jason Schweinberg Memorial Classic will continue to go toward the purchase of AED’s for schools and facilites for children. If you would like more information on how your school can receive an AED please email Cathy Schweinberg at cschweinberg@aol.com.
Child Honoree Wish
Each year, as part of the golf event, we make a wish come true for a child that is courageously battling CHD. Understanding how CHD’s affect the entire family, both financially and emotionally, we wish to put a smile on the child’s face and bring something special into these family’s lives.
A Message From the Schweinberg Family
The goal of our family is to spread awareness and educate the general public, to support other families whose children are born with chd’s, and to provide schools with defibrillators, while honoring Jason’s memory. We feel that the golf event reaches those goals and we could not have done it without the help of sponsors, volunteers, family, and friends. Words cannot express how much our family appreciates the willingness of others to support our cause. We thank you for honoring our son Jason’s memory in such a way, which helps others that are going through the same struggles.
