Mind Over Matter by S.J Clarke
Rebecca McKenney grieved the loss of her daughter for three years. Now, a vision showing Sabrina three years older, suggests her baby is still alive, and the FBI agent who gave up the search is the only one who can help find her. Special Agent Dan Cooper is haunted by a tragic mistake made early in the investigation of Sabrina’s disappearance. Now to ease his conscience he agrees to help Rebecca search. Together they fight inner demons, all to real bad guys, and an attraction neither wants to admit to. Each step closer to finding Sabrina is a step deeper into deception and evil. Can Rebecca and Dan save Sabrina before it’s too late?

My review:
Rebecca McKenney is a grieving mother who still in her heart believes her daughter is still alive. She has been missing for 3 years. She can’t explain why, but she just knows. As a mother, I can relate. Rebecca’s main problem is that the law enforcement in her town and area have all but written her daughter off and move on, which is what they think she should do too. Enter Dan, the former FBI task force agent who used to be on her daughter case. Dan is a complication, a person she got too close to on the case, which might have caused a mistake on Dan’s part. Regardless, after having a vision that her daughter is still alive along with another girl, she goes to Dan for help. Dan has never believed Rebecca about her visions but when they find a body of yet another girl in one of Rebecca’s visions in the exact spot she says Dan has no choice to believe and go to the local police for help in solving all these cases. Rebecca and Dan start getting too close for the kidnappers comfort, which tells them they are on the right path. As they follow the clues it leads them to people they never would have thought and unearth a conspiracy that goes generations back.
I haven’t read a good mystery/suspense in a very long time and I am so glad I took the time to read this one! I loved Rebecca and Dan’s banter, the give or take of their relationship. You begin to feel invested in their well being and find yourself rooting them on in their their relationship and their investigation. Awesome ending too. Thanks S.J for a great story! I am hoping you have a sequel up your sleeve. 🙂
