If you have kids like mine, you are always looking for a quick and easy after school snack. I like to shake it up and alternate what types of snack foods my kids eat. We often mix up snacks that are indulgent (they work hard at school all day!) and healthy.
When my older two were little they loved Oreo O’s as a treat and since they are back in the stores, Hy-Vee being one of them, my youngest gets to enjoy them too!
To be honest, they taste even better now than they did the last time they were in stores and even though I am not really a sweets person, I find myself stealing some.
My youngest loves to experiment with food, recipes, and flavors on almost a daily basis. I am always trying to surprise her with new and different snacks. She is definitely the forager in our house so having something ready for her when she gets off the bus is a must or she’ll eat the entire snack cabinet!

We are not huge cereal eaters in the morning since most of us are lactose intolerant but dry cereal is a favorite snack item around here though!
I picked up a box of Oreo Os at Hy-Vee plus popcorn and gluten-free granola to surprise my youngest when she got home from school. While they are pretty good on their own, I wanted to add my own little spin to it.
I mixed up the 3 ingredients using 1 cup of popcorn, 1 cup of cereal and 1/2 cup of granola. I wanted to incorporate sweet, salty and crunchy- her favorite flavors and texture.
I will admit, I made a bowl for myself. It smelled so good! The nutty smell of the granola and the delicious chocolatey smell of the Oreo Os was too good to resist.
The rich creme coating mixes perfectly with the saltiness of the popcorn and I like that the granola adds a little fiber for fuel for her to make it through the rest of the day. School is tiring! They need the energy to get through their homework.
Also while I was at Hy-Vee I saw that Honey Maid has a new cereal called Honey Maid S’mores.
I think the Honey Maid S’mores will also make a yummy addition to a snack mix so I think I have found my next after school snack for my daughter! It would be great to throw in her backpack for school snack too as a treat.
Whether you have never heard of Oreo O’s before but are intrigued, or it’s an old childhood favorite that brings back waves of nostalgia just thinking about it, the good news is that they’re back and better than ever! Chocolatey, crunchy O’s with that OREO® cookie taste you love and a rich creme coating combine to give you a bowlful of cookie milk that tastes so good you’ll finish it off with a smile.
