The Walking Dead Season 7 Episode 6 “Swear”
So many intense things have happened over the last 6 weeks in the Dead-verse that it’s been nice to have these very informative quiet-like filler episodes. Episode 5 showed us what a creep/bully/coward Gregory really is (as if we didn’t already know all that) which just goes to prove what dreadlock guy in “Swear” says to Tara while they’re on the road (I wish I knew his name, just learned it it’s Heath!). “If it’s you or someone else you choose you. No one is in this together anymore.” Dreads knows that life was something else before Rick’s group showed up but really I can’t say that he majority of the Alexandrians didn’t already have this mentality before the group “changed their lives”. Does Noah ring a bell? Poor Noah!
So Tara and Heath find this bridge with all these abandoned tents and completely blocked on both sides. It’s all dusty and stuff but sure Tara I’m sure there is something real good in that bag buried under that giant mound of dirt. Classic newcomer to the apocalypse move Tara, except you aren’t new to this world! No surprise that the two get ambushed. So, Heath kind of seems to disappear as Tara is getting attacked by some walkers, where is the bad ass Tara we use to know. Did taking on that satellite group affect her that much. Tara gets a little luck and gets pushed off the bridge by walkers and ends up on the shores of an Amazonian group. I’m just waiting to see Wonder Woman show up.
Time out to say how amazing those dusty walkers were. Like sometimes the special effects just blow me away on this show.
So this group has a very shoot first never ask questions never mentality. All except beach girl, Cindy. So Tara gets invited over for Sunday dinner and gets a special invitation for her and ‘her friend’ to stay. Of course Tara just wants to get back to Doctor Denise. But even if Tara knew that Denise had been killed by the Saviors I think she still would have said no to the invitation. The Grimes group is her family they’ve all been there for each other through a lot of bad guys. Which, side note, so sad to watch her just so happily walk up to the gates all sunshine and happy with her new weapon and glasses just to find out Denise and half her friends are gone.
Cindy, “Why did you kill all those people? Because you thought you had to, but you didn’t.”
Now Cindy has clearly been through a thing or 2 since all this death started. They’ve already run into the Saviors, she’s lost her mom, all the men in their group. Perhaps even had to use her sharp shooting skills to be the one to kill her mom? Has to deal with an obnoxious pre-teen who thinks she knows everything (sounds a lot like Carl). But even after all that and who knows what else she still has this optimistic hope that there is good in people. And she gives that chance to Tara, even though she knows absolutely nothing about her except she looks like she could be nice as she floats unconsciously on their beach. She saves her life a handful of times by the end of the episode, by her fellow Amazon and a few walkers, and risk being in a lot of trouble keeping her alive when Beatrice and scary lady are supposed to be killing her.
I’m sure this isn’t the last time we’ll see Cindy or the other Amazon’s, perhaps they will be instrumental in the demise of the Saviors? By the end of the season if Tara and Rosita are still alive I think we might see them cross over to this all women group.
Tara’s boobs.
I know in real life Tara just had a baby and I have to say watching her run… I feel your pain girl! I for one would not be able to handle running in the apocalypse a) just because I hate running with a passion (so I would be so grateful that the walkers are slower than snails unlike the World War Z zombies) b) because post baby body is not kind to a mother inside and out.
And thinking about having a baby with me in the zombie apocalypse reminds me that my own children (9 months and 3 1/2 years) would instantly be my end in the apocalypse. If the constant “Mommy” didn’t draw every walker, I know the ear piercing wails of the 9 month old would bring every walker in the nearby 2 states to us.
But the character Tara just feels a little different coming back to this season. I can’t put my finger on what it is. Are they just writing for her character differently, giving her more jokes (sure I appreciate a good sarcastically dry kind of humor) or maybe they’re making her a little dumb this season. It just seems like so many things she’s doing this episode are rookie mistakes and she should know better!
Beatrice.
I have to say I think Beatrice might just be my favorite Amazon. She has this kind of tormented-wants to believe in the good in people but has had some awful experiences so she has this kind of Carol-esk gleam in her eye. Clearly minus the whole cookie monster, I’m going to blow up your village kind of way. But you know she takes the time to explain to Tara why things have to be this way… that’s the kind of thing you want in your executioner. Compassion and explanation. You know long enough for someone to come up from behind and make you unconscious.
Which makes me think… Cindy is clearly a flight risk and everyone knows it. And Beatrice does take her sweet time. Was she expecting Cindy to come out and stop her, save Tara again. Maybe Beatrice sees and understands why they have to shoot people who aren’t them or people who won’t stay but maybe she’s not into being that kind of person.
Rosita.
Now Rosita is on the revenge tour. I don’t even think it’s 100% to avenge her fallen ex lover, it defiantly has a sort of need to regain the control that she use to hold. She use to be the big badass girl in their threesome. She thought she was on top of the world. Badass fighter, had Abraham as a lover, she had it all. Then Abraham left her and everything started to spiral out of her control. Then Negan came along and, well, there went the neighborhood.
But with all these ladies out in the Amazon world that have lost their husbands, lovers, brothers and dads maybe Rosita could get herself a sort of revenge party lynching mob going on. I’m sure there is one or two mad ladies with the Negan’s. If Tara decides to introduce the Oceanside ladies to her other group and then you add Carol (who has hopefully come to her senses) and her boyfriend’s pet tiger to the mix and then you got Maggie leading Hilltop… Maybe taking down Negan isn’t such a dream.
I mean, I’m feeling pretty good about my woman are gonna rule the world this season theory. It feels like it’s kind of stacking that way. Can’t say I would be that sad if Rosita threw Julian out there as a pawn and he didn’t come back, he is a giant pain in the ass version of Carl.
Heath, where you at?
But really, where are you at Heath? Here I started the episode believing you were just another one of those selfish Alexandrians willing to be like Shane and just leave a guy down when the walkers are stacked against them. But I should have known better than to think that of you, you’ve always been a character who went against the Alexandrian norm even if you’re having a little crisis of self. Every time Tara turned a corner I kept thinking no, don’t let that be Dreads and then sigh… relief.
Tara seems pretty optimistic that he’s still alive out there. Sure he lost his glasses and usually when someone loses something personal like that it doesn’t usually lead to them being alive but I think I’m on board with this Tara, he has to be out there. And I’m guessing the PPP written on the back of that card must have meant something to you… because I can’t even begin to think of what it could mean. Point, Place, Practice? Previous, Place, Pictures? Patience, Precious Place? And what kind of card was this, where did (let’s just assume it was Heath) get this card from?
And ‘That’s a Wrap’ for episode 6. I am literally on pins and needles wondering what could possibly happen on the winter finale episode, how can we possibly be at this point already and what will I do with my Sunday’s?!?! Could there be a lady revolt or will we just see Carl Carling-up the whole undercover spy thing with Jesus. It does seem like Jesus is more than happy to put some of Carl’s redeeming skills to use in the next episode. Will Daryl see Carl and tell him he’s been a super spy this whole time, or could Carl be the reason that Daryl fully gives himself over to the dark side and become a Negan… I can already feel myself saying no Carl, come on Carl you just ruined everything.
