To Buy a Home or Rent??
That’s the question on a lot of people’s mind right now. I know it’s on mine. We have been looking for over two years. The problems we have run into are:
- House is way out of our price range
- House is a foreclosure, so while it may be in our price range, it could take 6 months to get into.
- House is in our price range but needs thousands of dollars in repair.
- House is in our price range, but property taxes are astronomical.
We have seriously considering renting instead of buying and letting it be some one elses headache! At the same on the tax breaks aren’t nearly as large when you rent. So to buy a home would be more beneficial.
So here are a few things I have learned in the past two years.
- You don’t have to settle. No matter what any one says….you have to live in the house. You have to pay the bills, the taxes etc. Not them. If your gut screams “I don’t know” listen to it. Slow down and create a pros and cons list. Narrow down what your hesitation is with the property and see if what your issue is could be a deal-able situation.
- Get a good real-estate agent. One that understands your needs. One that understands your limitations and financial constraints.
- Look yourself. Don’t just rely on your agent to find properties. Sometimes the properties slip through before the agent can send them to you. Actively look in the areas you want to live in and email or call your agent as soon as you see them. I can’t tell you how many properties we have lost in the past two years because of this. Agents aren’t super human and can’t be monitoring properties at all times. Give them an assist sometimes! 🙂
Good luck! I hope you make out better than I have.
