Answer your budget saving needs with Tracfone or Net10; But Which Suits You Best?
Nowadays, a phone is not just simply a phone. Different phones have different specifications that can perform sophisticated functions as the user intends to, as long as it is within the phone’s capabilities. For example, if you would like a phone to be dedicated to navigation, then you can install lots of map data into your phone and buy applications that act as a tour guide. If you would like your phone to be dedicated to playing media files, then choose one that can produce great sounds and display crisp images in high resolution. If you would like your phone to do almost everything, get the best phone models like the iPhone 4S, Samsung Galaxy Note, or HTC Sensation XL.
Choosing a network provider is also like choosing a phone. You will have to choose one that will fit your purpose. Ideally we should choose one that will fulfil our desired functions for the least money. If we follow this minimalist’s point of view we will discover two things. First is that we can save lots of money by following a minimalist approach. Second is that many of us do not really need sophisticated and high end phones such as the iPhone 4S or high speed 4G LTE. If we are going to be minimalists, pre-paid subscriptions are usually enough as almost many of us (especially the older generations and younger generations as they are still kids) are only after basic calling and texting. And if this is the case, Tracfone and Net10 are two of the most affordable prepaid providers.
A reminder
The point of this article is not to convince you to ditch your postpaid network subscription over a prepaid one. However, I would like to encourage you to assess your needs and your current network if they do match. Are you using enough of what you are paying for? Or are you paying for more than what you are using? The reverse is also true. Is your current network able to provide all of your
smart phone needs in terms of speed and functionality? If not, then it may be time to upgrade to a postpaid subscription. Nevertheless, for our purposes, we will be focusing on prepaid subscription and affordability.
The Criteria
To decide whether these two prepaid network providers are for you, we will be examining them in terms of the criteria that contribute to the overall experience that a subscriber gets from subscribing to a network. These criteria are features, phone selection, network coverage, customer services, and affordability. To start, we will be looking at the networks’ features.
FEATURES
Tracfone – Tracfone offers services that are also offered by other networks; voice mail, number conversion, network time sync, and so on. Being a network provider, there is almost nothing notable to Tracfone except for its unparalleled affordability and double and triple minutes which doubles or triples the value of its already very affordable talk times.
Net10 – Net10 offers seamless top up systems like the Net10 reserve which lets you program a talk time voucher to automatically top up into your device once it has expired. Net10 also has the Auto Refill function which lets you refill your Net10 SIM card with 750 minutes of talk time automatically. Net10 auto refill uses your credit card or debit card for this purpose. Nevertheless, this feature is also offered by Tracfone and other networks.
Comparison – We are giving this criterion to Tracfone as we find its double and triple minutes features to be very useful and exploitable compared to what Net10 offers (not to mention that Tracfone is also capable of what Net10 offers).
PHONE SELECTION
Tracfone – Because of the nature of its plans and its market or target, most of Tracfone’s phone are basic phones and low end smart phones that are meant to address people who want nothing more from their phone but calling and texting (or maybe playing a few games and transferring a few files or pictures). Thus, if you are looking for some smart functions, don’t expect much from Tracfone. Tracfone is all about basic call and text; it’s all it does but it does it best.
Net10 – When it comes to phone selection, Net10 is a better contender that Tracfone. Although still no match for the phones that AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint offer, Net10 has a pretty decent line-up. It gives you the access to three Android smart phones, some smart phone-like basic phones, and really basic phones. net10’s phones are ideal for those who are looking for basic functionality to low-end smart phone functions.
Comparison – Because of the more versatile selection of phones, Net10 gets this criterion. However, do not expect great things from Net10’s phone selection. It only surpassed Tracfone by three Android phones, which is not much compared to other networks.
COVERAGE
Both Tracfone and Net10 are handled by Tracfone wireless and thus share the same network. Both Tracfone and Net10 have excellent GSM and UMTS networks that cover 99% of the country. Thus, these networks are guaranteed to be reliable when it comes to doing what they are meant to do.
CUSTOMER SERVICE
Like coverage, Tracfone and Net10 share the same system. Both have satisfactory customer services. However, since Tracfone is the main network, we can only presume that it is prioritized when it comes to urgent support or has a bigger allocation of resources when it comes to customer support. Nevertheless, we receive positive feedback regarding Net10 and Tracfone customer support and you
can never go wrong with these two when it comes to this area.
AFFORDABILITY
Tracfone – has the rate of 33 cents per minute of talk time. If you purchase a double minutes compatible phone, this can further be reduced to 7 cents a minute. Add Tracfone promo codes to this and you are sure to see the best deals that you can find anywhere else.
Net10 – Net10 is not as available as Tracfone when it comes to pay as you go rates. This network is made for moderately heavy phone users. However, Net10 has the unlimited talk time monthly plan that is available for $50. When it comes to heavy usage, Net10 can be, but is not necessarily, more affordable
than Tracfone.
Comparison – Tracfone is more affordable in general. However, depending on how you use your phone, then Net10 is more affordable. If you will be exceeding $50 per month with Tracfone, then Net10 will be cheaper and it may be wiser to switch.
