The Walking Dead S7 Ep11 “Hostiles and Calamities”
Well, this was kind of a vanilla episode… but boy was it sprinkled with fireworks of really amazing information and a new cool way to do a sort of flash back without the potential boring back story. Sure Dwight and Eugene might not seem or really be super important characters, well expect Dwight being Negan’s right-hand man and Eugene being all smarty pants and able to make bullets and what not, but they definitely had stories we needed to hear.
Where do we even begin…
Who let Daryl out… Who, who, who
After how much speculation, was it Dwight, was it Sherry… Well, it was Sherry. In a sort of strange decision to help out Dwight she let loose Daryl.
Or….. did she let Daryl loose as a sort of backup plan incase people went looking for her. Cause really who would Negan want to hunt down first. The man he’s been trying to break, the man who has shown his power to fight and lead or the woman he forced to marry who doesn’t really seem to have much of a backbone or really the ability to fight.
And really isn’t that what happened. By the time Negan thought about it and went looking for Sherry she was already long gone because he was preoccupied with Daryl. For a woman with seemingly little power to protect and defend herself she really thought that one through. It kind of feels weird to be all ‘Good job Sherry’ since she really put Daryl in a worse place but… I gotta say way to go Sherry.
Them are some sneaky-ass women!
Poor Eugene. It just kind of feels that every time things seem to be coming up Eugene, some sneaky pretty ladies in black dresses and red hair come in and try to use him. He was with them for like what 5 minutes and they already know he’s a huge asset. So now Eugene has given Negan this awesome idea to turn his walker fence into this kind of Wolverine, X-Men, like a walker that will be so much harder to take down.
But… I mean how many people close to Eugene realizes what he’s capable of the way Negan and his wives did. They saw him as this kind of whiney, sniveling man and what had to been within a day turned him into this well spoken, take what you need without answering to anyone, you can’t blackmail me cause I’m more important that you kind of guy. And now, now I think he’s a man with a plan.
But above all other things I really want to know… how does Eugene maintain such a well-groomed mullet? But back to these ladies of the night.
They can clearly see that Eugene is yearning for not only human companionship but that from the ladies as well. All the while watching I’m thinking I just don’t trust these ladies. I hear what they’re lips are saying but I just don’t believe this is about saving the blonde girl. I thought they’re either trying to get Eugene to fully admit to what he is capable of doing either because Negan sent them or because they want to use him to get out of the Sanctuary.
Well, we can see which one of those theories turned out to be true. And it totally backfired on those ladies. Which has me thinking… maybe it was Negan’s plan to torch the doctor to not only put his wives in check but to show Eugene what could happen if he got caught going against him.
So now I’m starting to think maybe Dwight wasn’t the one who threw the doctor under the bus for no reason?
The return of Easy Street.
Was there really any chance that we would get out of this season without hearing this song again? But oh how drastic the difference is between Daryl hearing it and Eugene hearing it.
For Daryl it’s a form of torture, telling him what life could be like if he just gave into Negan. For Eugene, it’s a recognize that in the Sanctuary he doesn’t have to be afraid, he doesn’t have to suffer without anything, that he can be top dog and not have to worry about going outside the walls and have to fight anymore, that people respect what he has to offer. Man, it really feels like I’m really trying to talk up the Saviors right now.
Say my name, say my name, say my name….
If your name is Negan than you better be shouting it from the rooftops because there is no other way you’re going to get to keep living on ‘Easy Street’ if you don’t fall in line. I just don’t know if I can believe that Eugene is completely jumping ships.
I kind of have this feeling that he see’s a much bigger plan as he’s standing on that bridge eating his delicious pickle, much like when Dwight was eating his delicious sandwich at a much happier time in his life, looking down on all those other people working hard to keep the Sanctuary not only running but safe.
All I can say is I hope more than just vengeful Rosita came looking for you Eugene, like they should. I think if the group doesn’t at least attempt to get him back then he might jump ship.
Is Eugene the new Dwight or is it all just a game?
There once was a forgetful lad named Dwight…
Whose wife saved his life by becoming Negan’s wife. In return for saving his life, she accidentally turned him into the kind of person he would hate. I’m guessing former pre-Negan Dwight was a very bright and shiny sensitive soul who, by the sound of Sherry’s letter, was lucky he remembered to put pants on before he left the house.
But now that Dwight has become a Negan (but I mean come on Sherry he really isn’t a hard core killer I think his deep down is that he’s trying to continue to keep you both alive) the best way she could think to ‘save’ him was to run far far away but not before setting Daryl free. Because “Daryl reminded you of who you use to be and I want you to forget who you were.” So… I guess that was kind of like Sherry mercy killing what was left of the old Dwight? If she could have just waited for like more than a millisecond maybe she would have seen Dwight wasn’t the Negan she thought was going to show up on their old doorstep. And give the man a little more credit Sherry. Not only did he remember where to find you (I could only hope he remembered where you guys use to live) but he brought you your damn beer and pretzels.
So… basically Dwight was also not happy with the way things were and he was throwing you a fricken bone with those pretzels and I think he would have left the life of a Negan behind to be with you. So now poor Dwight is left alone to think about how you didn’t have enough faith in him and how you just think he’s the stupidest person left and he’s left with the tough decision. Tell Negan she’s running or… say she got herself killed and pin the blame on someone else to keep Negan from looking for her. Poor Doctor- I don’t- know- your -name. Maybe if you hadn’t have been a turd to Dwight he would have left you out of it. And then Negan wouldn’t have thrown you into the fire pit like you were half of Hansel and Gretel. But in the end I’m sure you were no saint Doctor what’s your name.
What we need to know Dwight is “who are you?” Are you a Savior or are you other?
Is there a bright side into making a Doctor Pizza?
Kind of… Eugene has made it clear in this episode that he isn’t as daft as people presume he is and that he most likely is formulating an end plan and Dwight will be a part of it. Sure they’re both Negan but Eugene cleverly points out they both still have handle names and while living the good life full of pickles and Gremblygunk’s and falling in line with what Negan expects from you is all good and fine to survive for now.
Eugene thinks and expects that his family will come for him bazooka’s in hand but the thing that makes me nervous is that Rosita seems to be the only one thinking about poor Eugene. Rick is all giddy about the Junkyard gang being a part of his group how bout thinking about this for a second Rick… There is clearly a group of unhappy wives in this compound and I think they would be more willing and beyond happy for someone to tell them they can take down Negan.
So now… Rick has a Junkyard gang in and ambassador (Father Gabriel). Tara is the future ambassador of the Amazon’s of the walker river cause eventually, she is going to have to give them up. Carol and Morgan working their magic on the Kingdom. Maggie reeling in the Hilltop community. And now, if you ever feel like going after Eugene who is a under utilized member of your group, you could potentially dominate the Saviors.
And That’s a Wrap for this episode of Walking Dead. “Being there is worse than being dead” I just hope it doesn’t end that way for my dear sweet, mullet wearing, video game playing Eugene. Don’t fall to those feminine wiles, stay strong.
