Huge thanks to Ozobot Smart Toy Robots for partnering with me in this post.
Do you have a mini coder like I do? I cannot rave more about the Ozobot Bit and it’s fantastic impact on my daughter’s (and mine too!) imagination.
A couple of months back I did a post about Ozobot EVO and how awesome it was working getting my daughter thru the summer boredom that sets in eventually. She is HUGELY into STEM activities and I encourage it every chance I get.
When I was given an additional chance to have her try the Ozobot Bit I couldn’t say no.
When the Ozobot Bit arrived in the mail my daughter’s face was awesome. She got more and more excited with each thing she pulled out of the box. Honestly? So did I. This is not just for kids, teens and adults can definitely enjoy this tiny tinker robot too.
Getting started with your Ozobot Bit
When you purchase a Bit starter pack you get 2 skins, accessories for the skins, guide papers, decals with the code already set up on them, dice cubes, a USB cord and two sleeves for your code papers.
The first thing she did, of course, was dressed up her Bit. I was laughing listening to her ask it what it wanted to wear.
While the Ozobot Evo was perfect for her, I love how the Bit takes coding one step further. She now has all she needs to be creative, inventive and challenged with both the Evo and Bit.
The Ozobot Bit uses both apps and guiding papers to guide your child (or even yourself!) on their coding adventure. There are so many activities for her to do, even after using it non-stop over the last month, she still hasn’t done everything the Bit has to offer.
First, you have to dress your Ozobot Bit up in your choice of skin design.
You can then choose your Bit’s mood.
Then you calibrate it with the handy dandy calibration paper provided in your starter pack or in the Ozobot app.
Once you have it calibrated, the Bit is ready to play. Ozobot includes amazing tools to help your child along.
Your next step is to start with the numbered guide papers to help you learn how to use the Ozobot Bit and how to use the special code to make him do lots of awesome tricks!
My daughter was raring-to-go, I barely got these pictures of her doing the guide pages! You start with page one (the calibration page) and move on from there. You will need your markers, the pages and of course your Bit!
Coding Your Sequence
Follow the directions on each page and you will be on your way to coding an adventure for your Ozobot Bit!
Once your first sequence is done, send your Bit on its path to adventure! It’s adorable to see him try to find his way around.
Once you get acquainted with how the coding works, you can get fancy and use the page sleeves along with the decals to speed up the process.
My daughter used both the markers and the decals with this one. She likes that she can draw on the paper but if she changes her mind she can just throw the paper in the sleeve and change it anytime she wants.
Like I said if you have little tinkerers or coders, this starter pack is right up your alley. It works their brain, stimulates their imagination and keeps them off the devices unless they are using the app. Even when they use the app they are doing puzzles etc, so it’s learning in a fun way.
My daughter also recommends it HIGHLY. She’s been spreading the word to all her friends. She’s definitely a blogger in training. 😉
